Nahmyaa

Nahmyaa is the Southern Thai restaurant at COMO Point Yamu, on the cape that juts into Phang Nga Bay on Phuket's east coast. The room, designed by Paola Navone, looks out over the bay's limestone islands, and the menu focuses on the bold flavours of Thailand's southern provinces: turmeric-rich curries, shrimp-paste relishes, and salads sharp with lime and chilli.

The kitchen offers an eight-course tasting menu as well as à la carte dishes for sharing. It is quieter and more formal than the west-coast restaurants, and the east-facing view is at its best at dusk rather than sunset.

Nahmyaa serves dinner only, Wednesday to Sunday from 6:30pm to 10pm. From the west coast, allow 40 minutes to an hour by car.

We came here on our final night at COMO Point Yamu after all our wedding guests had left. It was our first quiet evening as newlyweds, and it turned out to be the perfect date night. The food was exceptional and deeply authentic. Southern Thai cuisine has a very distinct personality compared to other regions of Thailand. The flavours are bolder, spicier and more aromatic, with generous use of turmeric, fresh herbs, seafood and coconut. Having eaten at several well known restaurants around Phuket during the trip, I can confidently say this meal surpassed them all. We started with Bue Thod Goong, deep fried spiced prawns with local jungle leaf fritters, taro and chilli tamarind sauce. The frying was executed perfectly. Light, crisp and not oily at all, which is exactly what you hope for with this kind of dish. My favourite of the evening was Kaeng Kati Poo Bai Chaplu. Blue crab cooked in a rich turmeric, young ginger and coconut curry with green peppercorns and betel leaf. This is a signature southern Thai dish and it was outstanding. The crab was incredibly fresh with generous sweet lumps of meat and it paired beautifully with the traditional rice noodles served alongside. The Pla Muek Phad Nahm Dum, southern style wok fried squid with dark ink, had wonderful wok hei. The sauce was so flavourful we ended up finishing it with spoonfuls of rice. Pak Kud Tom Kati, wok fried fern tips with shallots, coconut milk and shrimp paste, was a lovely local vegetable dish that you do not often see elsewhere. It felt very regional and comforting. Another standout was Pak Boong Fai Dang, wok fried morning glory with garlic, chilli and soybean sauce. This was recommended by Eye and it was absolutely delicious. We eat morning glory regularly, often as kangkong, but this was probably the best version we have ever had. Everything was served family style with unlimited white and black rice, which made the meal feel relaxed and generous. For dessert we went with the classic Khao Neaw Mamuang, sweet jasmine scented sticky rice with fresh mango, and my personal favourite Thong Muan Sod. The soft pandan coconut crepes were beautifully fragrant and slightly chewy, served with macapuno coconut and crispy coconut wafer rolls that added a lovely contrast in texture. To make the evening even more special, we paired the meal with a South Tyrolean wine, a little taste of home that surprisingly worked beautifully with the food. The service was incredibly attentive and warm. We had the pleasure of being looked after by Eye, whose hospitality made the evening even more memorable. It was the perfect end to our wedding celebrations. Even if we were not staying at the hotel, I would absolutely come back just to enjoy the food here again.

We ate here 2 times during our stay at Como, the food and service were both nice but there were no stand-out dishes. We tried their tasting menus on the first occasion and while all the dishes were good, non of them made us go "wow". I do have to say that their cocktail called Mango Frost (available here, at the bar and the Italian restaurant) was amazing. The only issue was that every time we ordered it, the taste was different depending on the proportion of the ingredients used. By far the best version was made by the lady at the bar who never smiles and unfortunately we had to send subsequent versions back as they were far inferior.

Came here for dinner with a friend and had a wonderful time. The atmosphere was peaceful, perfect for a dinner meal. We had a six-course meal, focused on Northern and Southern Thai dishes. The food itself was delicious, portion sizes were good, and beautifully presented. The staff even took time to explain the dishes to us as they were brought out. Honestly the best Thai food I've had since moving here. Highly recommend if you're looking for a fine dining experience in Phuket!

I ate here three times in my stay at Como Yamu. The staff are lovely and the food is well balanced with perfectly prepared proteins. The set menu was delicious and a good mix of food at a sensible price The steamed sea bass with local fish chilli sauce was a particular highlight. The wine list is good, and sensibly priced. It was only.ruined by the loud music from the wedding next door on the second night, so check there isnt one that day before you go.
