Tulemar Resort
A gated collection of individually owned bungalows and villas set within a private nature reserve, Tulemar consistently ranks among the highest-rated properties in the country. Each unit is different: some are architect-designed modern pavilions with infinity pools, others cosy treehouse-style cabins tucked into the canopy. The private beach, reached by a winding jungle path, is beautiful.
The resort format means service is less structured than a conventional hotel: there is no central restaurant, though a poolside bar and beachfront grill keep things easy. What you trade in formality you gain in privacy, wildlife, and setting.
Nightly rates for the premium villas run USD 600 to USD 1,200 depending on size and season. Tulemar rewards travellers who value space and seclusion over resort choreography.

May 2026 was the first time that my family and I have ever visited Costa Rica and we decided to stay at Tulemar for the week. I can't say nothing but positive things about this report. Our agent Fabio was absolutely incredible from start to the last handshake on our way to the airport. He was extremely attentive to us, brought in small treats for the kids to eat and helped set up all of the attractions/events that we went to. I can't thank him enough for everything that he's done for my family and I. The resort was run very well with extremely friendly staff from the cafe, main entrance, cleaning staff and the van drivers. Everything was easily accessible and having the vans to help get the kids up the hill to the main entrance was very helpful. The house that we had 11X had such a beautiful view with big windows showing everything around us. From the rainforest background, the distant hills/mountains and the ocean right in the "backyard". The rooms were taken care of very well and well equipped. During the weeks stay we had the power go out around 920pm for about 30 min or so which I read is common in this area. The pool at the cafe and the jungle pools were clean and great for kids. The jungle pool was a lot of fun with monkeys hanging around in the afternoon, the waterfall that you can sit under and the extra step that kids can stay on to splash/swim around. We even made friends with the pool iguana hanging around us for a few days. Ha. Transportation and walking to local restaurants was easy and the walking wasn't too bad with the cars driving by. The prices for food at the cafe were not too bad and was less than expected. Having the convenience store at the resort entrance was nice and handy. Just keep mind mind that anything imported costs a decent amount more.
Our stay at Tulemar Resort was great! Exceeded my expectations in many ways. Being in the rainforest meant lots of wildlife roaming free, amazing views, privacy but still surrounded by amenities and spots to visit outside of the resort. The concierge Jorge was very helpful starting from before, during, and after our trip - he helped answer our questions, booked our excursions, coordinated any other requests we had and more. It was easy to coordinate housekeeping depending on when we left for the beach or excursions through concierge. The shuttle drivers were all lovely and gave great suggestions when we wanted to explore. Lots of delicious sodas around the town worth visiting. The pools and beach were so beautiful and relaxing, we wanted to swim everyday. It is at the top of a steep hill with a single lane so if you are driving, keep that in mind but it wasn't difficult to get around MA and Quepos at all. Would love to stay again and miss it already
This place and the people were magical. We loved being at a resort with a private beach! It made daily swims in the ocean so easy. The staff are the best - friendly and joyful. Our private concierge was Jorge and he was amazing. Lots of animals on the property too (although you definitely want to go to the full park tour). Highly recommend this place!!
Tulemar is a truly beautiful property and we had many wonderful moments during our stay. The wildlife, grounds, beach access, and overall setting are very special. We really loved our 12 night stay there. Several staff members were excellent and deserve recognition - particularly Vanessa in housekeeping, David at the beach, Natalie at Tule Café, and the shuttle drivers. Their warmth and professionalism genuinely enhanced our experience. We loved seeing them. Our experience with the concierge service, however, did not match the level we expected based on Tulemar’s reputation and the cost of our stay. Throughout the trip, communication and coordination often felt reactive rather than proactive. For example: - After providing our flight arrival details into Quepos, transportation assistance was not offered and we arranged our own transfer. - We were initially given a key to the wrong unit. - For one excursion, we were provided an incorrect cash amount and only learned of a pickup time change because we followed up ourselves after not receiving pickup information. - We requested housekeeping every second day, but this was not consistently coordinated. - The day before departure, we ultimately had to go to reception ourselves to ask about checkout procedures and departure logistics, as no information had been proactively provided. None of these issues individually ruined the trip, but together they created unnecessary stress during what was otherwise a beautiful vacation. We also experienced a delayed airport transfer on departure, although Tulemar did cover the cost of the transfer afterward, which we appreciated. Overall, Tulemar is a special place with many excellent staff members, but we found the concierge and operational side of the experience inconsistent.
Beautiful resort at a fantastic location. Has a beach at the bottom, 2 restaurants and shuttles to take you up and down the resort with a single phone call. Lush forest all around the property with plenty of wildlife to see like sloths, monkeys, toucan, parrots. Close to restaurants and shops that are moderately walkable (not much of a sidewalk so be careful). Overall great place to stay.

Andaz Papagayo
Hyatt's Andaz brand brings a younger, more design-forward sensibility to Peninsula Papagayo. The property sits lower on the landform than its Four Seasons neighbour, with direct access to Nacascolo beach and a markedly more informal atmosphere. Concrete, wood, and local stone combine in a contemporary tropical aesthetic, and the curated art collection through the public spaces gives it a gallery-like character.

Botanika Osa Peninsula
A newer arrival to the Osa's lodge scene, Botanika brings a contemporary design sensibility to the rainforest-lodge format. Open-plan suites with freestanding bathtubs, rainfall showers, and expansive decks face directly into primary forest, and the infinity pool overlooks the Golfo Dulce.

Four Seasons Papagayo
The Four Seasons commands a dramatic hilltop on the western flank of Peninsula Papagayo, looking down on two beaches, Virador and Blanca, with the Gulf of Papagayo beyond. The architecture is bold: soaring palm-thatched rooflines drawn from traditional rancho structures, with the resort cascading down the hillside toward the water. Rooms and suites are spacious and impeccably finished, many with private plunge pools and uninterrupted ocean views.
