Mandarin Oriental, Lago di Como

The Mandarin Oriental occupies a series of restored eighteenth-century villas on the lakeshore at Blevio, with gardens, a spa, and the serene, meticulously managed environment the brand is known for. The 73 rooms and suites spread across multiple buildings, and the best offer lake views, private gardens, and in some cases their own pools.

The hotel's Michelin-starred restaurant is among the most refined dining rooms on the lake. The spa draws on both Eastern and Western traditions, and a private boat shuttle connects the hotel to Bellagio and other lakeside towns.

Rates start around EUR 500 for a garden-view room, rising past EUR 1,500 for premium suites. It suits travellers who prize tranquillity, service, and gastronomy over the social energy of a town setting.

My wife and I stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Lago di Como for a birthday getaway, and it was a truly special experience from beginning to end. We originally reserved a Premiere Suite with Partial Lake View and were generously upgraded to a Lake View Suite. Waking up each morning to those incredible views of Lake Como was unforgettable. The property itself is beautiful, peaceful, and feels tucked away from the crowds while still being close enough to enjoy the lake. What really made the stay stand out, though, was the warmth of the staff. There wasn’t one dramatic “above and beyond” moment. Instead, it was the consistent attentiveness, professionalism, and genuine friendliness throughout our stay that made us feel welcome and cared for. Since we were celebrating a birthday, the team also prepared a thoughtful welcome gift and birthday treat that made the trip feel even more personal. The food was excellent across the property. We especially enjoyed dining at L˜ARIA and CO.MO Bar & Bistrot, both of which have beautiful seating right along the lake. The tortino chocolate cake at L˜ARIA was outstanding and absolutely worth ordering. We also booked a private boat tour on one of the Cranchi boats, which was a lovely way to experience the lake. The only small downside was that our guide spoke fairly limited English, which made it harder to learn much during the tour itself. We ended up using a translation app and that helped us ask questions and helped him respond. Overall, this was one of those stays that simply felt good the entire time we were there. Relaxing, romantic, welcoming, and beautifully done. We left feeling grateful for the experience and would absolutely return.

We’re currently staying at Mandarin Oriental Lake Como to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary and chose the property because of its beautiful setting and reputation for exceptional luxury hospitality. While the property itself is stunning, several aspects of our stay were disappointing. We were informed that photography around certain areas of the property was not permitted and, more surprisingly, our guests were asked to sign a document written entirely in Italian stating that photos could not be taken. No English version was provided, and the contents were not properly explained before requesting signatures. As an international luxury hotel welcoming guests from all over the world, asking foreign guests to sign documents in a language they do not understand is, at the very least, inappropriate and uncomfortable. Guests should be given documentation in a language they can reasonably understand before being asked to sign. What made the situation even more frustrating was that during our stay we observed other guests using professional cameras and photography equipment around the property. This created the impression that the policy was being applied inconsistently. In addition, housekeeping did not service our room until approximately 3:00 PM, which fell well below the standard we expected from a hotel of this caliber. We chose Mandarin Oriental Lake Como to celebrate our 10-year wedding anniversary because of its reputation for exceptional hospitality. While the property itself is undeniably beautiful, the experience left us feeling unwelcome and disappointed during what should have been a special and memorable occasion. Luxury hospitality is not just about a beautiful location, it is about service, consistency, fairness, and making guests feel valued. Unfortunately, this stay did not live up to those expectations.

Worth the trip just to walk through the gates! We visited as day guests for a birthday lunch and the property completely won us over. Historic villa, beautiful gardens, a floating dock right on the lake. Simply stunning. The service matched the setting perfectly. Our reservation was handled flawlessly and every person we met on the grounds was genuinely warm and welcoming. For a hotel of this level, that is not a given. We will absolutely be back, next time to stay.

Super friendly staff, as a long-term fan of MO I was taken good care of. It’s not a big property but a beautiful and easy one. They have the best service in lake como from my experience. Still some details are maintained haphazardly. Such as restrooms in lobby and one unfriendly SPA reception…

Beautiful hotel in Beautiful location, hard to find a negative. The staff are all so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much to ask. We were travelling through with our Golden retriever and stayed a few nights. They were hugely accommodating to our dog and she felt like Royalty everywhere she went. Can't thank the team enough.
