Hotel Royal Victoria
The Royal Victoria occupies a converted nineteenth-century villa on the Varenna waterfront, with a garden terrace that runs down to the lake's edge. The rooms are traditional in style, but the lake-view rooms with balconies are lovely, and the location is unbeatable: steps from the ferry dock, the promenade, and the village's best restaurants.
Varenna's slower pace is the draw here. In the evenings, when the day-trippers have left and the promenade belongs to residents and hotel guests, it is among the most peaceful spots on the lake.
Rates start around EUR 180. Not luxurious by grand-hotel standards, but the setting and the warmth of the service make it a favourite among returning visitors.
Guest Reviews
The hotel was beautiful, centrally located, and a truly peaceful place to come back to and enjoy the lake away from the more crowded tourist parts of Varenna. The biggest highlights were the unbeatable view, the best hotel breakfast I’ve ever had (with the aforementioned view), and dinner at the attached Visteria (best meal I’ve ever had). The staff who work at the restaurants and by the pool are incredible - so friendly and helpful. The reception staff were a little less warm and could have been more helpful with shuttle transit upon arrival to Varenna and with securing dinner reservations. Would absolutely recommend staying here.
What an unforgettable stay! This hotel is absolutely gorgeous, and the location on Lake Como simply cannot be beat. Waking up right on the water with those breathtaking views felt like a dream. Having a pool overlooking the lake made it even more special - the perfect place to relax and soak in the beauty of the area. The breakfast was truly out of this world—fresh, delicious, and such a wonderful way to start each day. Every detail of our stay felt luxurious and memorable. We loved every minute and are already counting down the days until we can come back. Highly recommend!
My wife and I honeymooned here and overall had a great stay. We got unlucky with the room they put us in, so avoid room 116 They did offer to switch us out and comped a Spa session due to the rough room location within the hotel. Otherwise the hotel itself is great, beautiful bar area and pool deck and dining overlooking the lake. The stay was made special by Aziz at the hotel bar where we spent time before and after dinners. He was extremely attentive and clearly passionate about his craft and about the people he serves. He is a skilled bartender and took great care of us and we overheard several other guests praising his warm and welcoming demeanor. Federica, the concierge, was also extremely helpful in helping us with recommendations and resolving a few reservations we managed to botch on our own. Would definitely stay here again. The hotel and the town of Varenna are worth the trip.
An Unforgettable Lake Como Experience We just got back from a stay in Varenna and honestly, this place exceeded every expectation. We booked a Prestige Room and the lake view was something else, we kept stopping mid-conversation just to look at it. Hard to overstate how good it is. The bar quickly became our go-to spot every afternoon. They do a great Select Spritz there with the lake right in front of you. Simple, but perfect. Service-wise, five stars across the board. Special shoutout to Frederica at the concierge, she was friendly every single time we interacted with her, remembered little details about us, and genuinely made the effort to make our stay special. The kind of person who makes you feel like you’re in good hands from day one. Overall, a fantastic stay. If you’re heading to Lake Como, this is the one.
My mom and I stayed here and had a lovely experience. This is a charming hotel and the customer service here was top notch! Rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff working here go out of their way to be helpful. Beautiful view of the lake and easy to walk around everywhere. We came in on the train from Milan and the hotel will pick you up at the station when you arrive. Once there, you can take a ferry to visit the other nearby towns--we did one to Bellagio, and it was really fun. Highly recommend this hotel!

Filario
Filario is a modern lakefront hotel in Lezzeno, between Como town and Bellagio on the eastern shore. The 10 rooms are minimalist and elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows over the lake, and there is a small pool, a good restaurant, and a jetty for boat arrivals.

Grand Hotel Tremezzo
The Grand Hotel Tremezzo is, for many, the definitive Lake Como hotel. It has been hosting guests since 1910, and the combination of Art Nouveau architecture, a floating pool set in the lake itself, lakeside gardens, and views directly across to Bellagio creates a striking setting. This is the hotel that appears in every Lake Como feature, and it earns the attention.

Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni
The Villa Serbelloni is Bellagio's grande dame: a neoclassical palace at the tip of the promontory, with gardens, a pool, a private dock, and old-world grandeur that modern hotels cannot replicate. The hotel has operated since 1873, and the frescoed ceilings, marble floors, and crystal chandeliers reflect that lineage without feeling preserved in amber.
