Il San Pietro di Positano
If Le Sirenuse represents old-world Positano elegance, Il San Pietro is its slightly wilder counterpart. Built into the cliff face just south of town, the hotel is reached by a road that descends through the rock to a lobby perched above the sea, and a private lift drops guests to a beach club at water level.
The rooms are individually designed, many with private terraces over the water, and the botanical gardens, tended by the founding family since the 1970s, supply herbs and vegetables to the kitchen. It is the kind of place that earns fiercely loyal return visitors.
Doubles start from around EUR 700. The cliffside setting involves lifts and steps, so ask about access if mobility is a concern.
Guest Reviews
My wife and I stayed at Il San Pietro for our 30th anniversary, and the experience exceeded every expectation. The service was truly exceptional. Every member of the staff was warm, attentive, professional, and incredibly knowledgeable. They anticipated our needs before we even had to ask and made us feel genuinely cared for throughout our stay. Our room was superb, beautifully appointed, comfortable, and accompanied by what can only be described as a billion dollar view. Waking up each morning overlooking the Amalfi Coast was unforgettable. A special thank you to Pasquale, who was an absolute gem. His kindness, attention to detail, and genuine hospitality made our anniversary celebration even more memorable. Il San Pietro is not just a hotel, it’s an experience. We will cherish the memories from this trip for the rest of our lives and cannot wait to return.
We stayed here 3 nights for our honeymoon and had an amazing time! They provided a special gift to take home since we were celebrating our honeymoon. All the staff was extremely helpful and pleasant and helped us navigate weather related challenges. We did the cooking class, pizza making, cocktail making which were all wonderful! We also played in the amazing tennis court right near the water which was beautiful. They also have their own private beach club which is plus if you want to avoid the crowded areas. We also dined at Zass and Il Carlino (the two on-site restaurants) which were very good. The hotel provides shuttle service to Positano city center and water taxi to the main Positano beach as well which was very convenient. Breakfast is included and the best of what we had in our time in Italy. All the rooms, restaurants, and common areas all have stunning views of either Positano or Praiano. Unfortunately we didn’t get to do the boat cruise because of bad weather / sea conditions during our stay. We truly had the best time staying at this property and really appreciated all the staff for making it such a memorable stay. Will definitely need to come back, highly recommend!
We have been to many high end hotels and resorts and Il San Pietro is clearly at the top. The location is perfect. Believe me, you do not want to be in the middle of "downtown" Positano during your stay. Il San Pietro is just a quick shuttle ride from town but light years from the hustle and bustle. Built into the cliffs (an engineering feet that is truly amazing) the views of Positano and the sea are breathtaking. The facilities are 5 star in every way. The staff is beyond amazing. So kind, helpful and knowledgable. They bend over backwards to help at every turn. Dining overlooking the sea is spectacular. If you're into tennis, you'll never play in a more impressive location. Expensive, yes. Worth it? ABSOLUTELY!
We had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The room was spectacular. The food was fresh delicious & prepared magnificent. Service was outstanding in the restaurants housekeeping front office, pool area & beach club. I would like to mention a few of your staff who were very helpful and kind Valerie at the front desk Rosalie at the front desk and Francesca at the front desk. The manager host at the restaurant and all the waiters. Keep up the fine work we will look forward to coming back and recommending your property to our friends.
Amazing staff and hotel. The location is superb. Being away from the crowds of Positano proper, but with the ability to shuttle in easily is the perfect balance. The general manager Andrea makes you feel like the most important guest. As does the rest of the staff. Rosella at the front desk was terrific. I wish I could name all of the staff members, as they were all exceptional. One slight disappointment was that the boat excursion was canceled two days in a row, but that couldn’t be helped. A tremendous 5 star experience!!!
More Hotels in Amalfi Coast

Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel
A thirteenth-century Capuchin convent turned luxury hotel, the Convento sits above Amalfi town with expansive views along the coast. The cloister, with its Arab-Norman arches and citrus garden, is magnificent, and the infinity pool overlooking the town and the sea is excellent.

Belmond Hotel Caruso
The infinity pool at Hotel Caruso, set in the gardens of an eleventh-century palazzo, appears to merge directly with the sea 300 metres below. It is, without exaggeration, one of the most photographed hotel pools in the world.

Casa Angelina
The coast's most design-forward hotel, Casa Angelina is a study in Mediterranean minimalism: all white surfaces, clean lines, and vast windows framing the sea. It is a striking counterpoint to the baroque opulence of properties like Palazzo Avino.
