Anantara Convento di Amalfi Grand Hotel
A thirteenth-century Capuchin convent turned luxury hotel, the Convento sits above Amalfi town with expansive views along the coast. The cloister, with its Arab-Norman arches and citrus garden, is magnificent, and the infinity pool overlooking the town and the sea is excellent.
Rooms are comfortable and modern, if not quite as characterful as the public spaces. The central location puts the harbour, ferries, and Amalfi's cathedral within an easy walk.
Doubles start from around EUR 400. A strong choice for travellers who want a central base without sacrificing atmosphere.
Guest Reviews
The hotel is truly beautiful. The spaces, rooms, food, and overall atmosphere are charming and incredibly well designed. Everything about the property feels luxurious and special. However, the service was unfortunately very disappointing. On our first day, we made a reservation for five people at Cappuccini restaurant. We requested 7:30 PM but were told the only availability was at 9:30 PM, which we accepted. When we arrived, we were informed that there had been a mistake and that our reservation was actually at another restaurant because Cappuccini was supposedly full, even though it did not appear to be. The food at the other restaurant was excellent, but the situation was frustrating. Throughout the stay, service felt consistently slow. At breakfast and during the afternoons, it often took a very long time for staff to approach the table. One afternoon, I waited around 10 minutes just to order wine and never received the food menu until I was already leaving. At the pool the next day, no one approached for about 30 minutes, and I had to repeatedly get someone’s attention just to order water. These may seem like small details, but for someone who travels often and enjoys luxury hotels, service is what defines the experience. It is disappointing because the hotel itself is stunning, but unfortunately the level of service did not match the beauty of the property.
This hotel and every member of the team is absolutely first class. The historic hotel is in pristine condition, beautifully decorated and incredibly well kept. Francesca, Mirko, Marco(!), and the whole team are incredibly kind, attentive and took great care of my wife and I while we were guests. The rooms, the food, the views, and the setting can’t be beat. I highly recommend. It’s also very centrally located to Positano and Ravello and offers a great base from which to explore the Amalfi Coast. 💯🤌🏼🇮🇹
I think there’s no perfect Amalfi stay without staying at this hotel. Great history and location, and breathtaking scenery, lovely breakfast, and warm welcoming staff. I think the facilities were very well-equipped for a monastery built in the 13th century. I think it's amazing that this historic building has an elevator that climbs the cliff. Don't compare it with business hotels in the city. It is true that the room was small, there was mould in the bathtub, lipsticks on the cups and I asked for an exchange, but it didn't come. Housekeeping may need a little more professional. But the staff has a warm personality that can forgive everything. Thank you for the best memories🩷
OMG what a unique treat! Everything was great. The rooms are a bit small but hey — think about sleeping in a monks cove where those monks spent their lives since is was a Cistercian monastery in the 12th century. The breakfast was excellent, everyone was so nice and helpful. The outside gym overlooking the sea from high above - is an experience. The old monastery church is cool and nice to relax and read out there. We only stayed at the hotel for one day (spontaneously) and were sad they didn’t have rooms for more nights. The Infinity pool is beautiful though too cold for me to swim this time of year (unless you’re from the Nordics😜). The staff happily shuttled us to town and back. Valet parking made easy at €75 per night (perking is pretty tough along the coast so this was good). Our highlight was the pizza class with chef Dominico. I believe they offer that twice weekly at €50 per participant. Dominico is a great guy. The class was lots of fun, instructive and his pizza was hands down THE best we’ve had in Italy (and we’ve tried many). If you have time, ask to do the Nutella pizza as well. Now begins the diet. Go to this hotel if you can.
I just visited Anantara Convento di Amalfi with a group of friends — one of them a hotelier himself — and we were all truly impressed by the exceptional level of hospitality and attention to detail throughout our stay. From the moment we arrived until our departure, every aspect of the experience was curated with remarkable care, elegance and generosity. The organisation by Francesca (Anantara Guest Services) of our visit to Marisa Cuomo, together with the exquisite wine-pairing lunch, was a genuine highlight that we will remember for a long time. We were also touched by the personalised gifts thoughtfully prepared each evening, as well as the lovely welcome drinks and snacks, which added such a refined and warm touch. What stood out just as much was the professionalism of the entire team, combined with a rare and authentic “want-to” attitude — always present, always kind, and always anticipating needs with warmth and discretion. This unique balance of operational excellence and genuine hospitality is not easy to achieve, and it was recognised and appreciated by all of us, especially those in our group who work in the hotel industry. Our stay at Anantara Convento di Amalfi was truly memorable, and we are already looking forward to returning. Highly recommended.

Belmond Hotel Caruso
The infinity pool at Hotel Caruso, set in the gardens of an eleventh-century palazzo, appears to merge directly with the sea 300 metres below. It is, without exaggeration, one of the most photographed hotel pools in the world.

Casa Angelina
The coast's most design-forward hotel, Casa Angelina is a study in Mediterranean minimalism: all white surfaces, clean lines, and vast windows framing the sea. It is a striking counterpoint to the baroque opulence of properties like Palazzo Avino.

Il San Pietro di Positano
If Le Sirenuse represents old-world Positano elegance, Il San Pietro is its slightly wilder counterpart. Built into the cliff face just south of town, the hotel is reached by a road that descends through the rock to a lobby perched above the sea, and a private lift drops guests to a beach club at water level.
