Six Senses Uluwatu
For many travellers, Six Senses Uluwatu is simply the best hotel in Bali. The clifftop position is staggering, perched 70 metres above the Indian Ocean with 180-degree views from virtually every point in the resort. The architecture blends raw timber, stone, and soaring bamboo structures in a way that feels genuinely connected to the landscape rather than imposed on it.
The 103 suites and villas are enormous, all with ocean views and most with private pools. The spa is a destination in its own right, combining Balinese healing traditions with the Six Senses wellness programme, and Rocka, the clifftop restaurant, serves accomplished Mediterranean-Asian cooking against a view that makes it hard to concentrate on the plate.
Rates start around USD 500 for a Sky Suite and rise past USD 3,000 for pool villas. Book well in advance for the June-to-September window, when the resort fills months ahead.
Guest Reviews
We had a wonderful stay at Six Senses Uluwatu. The resort is beautiful, peaceful, and offers stunning views. We stayed in the Sky Pool Suite and absolutely loved having our own private pool. One thing to note is that there are quite a few monkeys roaming around the resort, especially near the villas, so do keep an eye on your belongings and keep doors closed when possible! A special mention to the buggy service — the lobby is quite a distance from the rooms, so the buggy rides were very much appreciated. We actually looked forward to them every time and enjoyed the little ride around the resort. The staff were always friendly and quick to respond. Overall, a great stay and a memorable experience in Uluwatu. Would definitely recommend!
The stay with six senses is as great as always. We spent the new year’s eve and the following few days here. The villa was quiet, well maintained and with beautiful ocean views. The private pool was a great size for a soaking and swimming. You can always call a buggy to go around, which is very convenient. And the buffet breakfast was amazingly delicious. We will definitely come back after their renovation this year.
I stayed here for three days in June 2025. While the resort is beautifully designed and boasts an absolutely stunning ocean view 🤩, the rooms felt a bit dated and could use an uplift. I tried all the on-site restaurants, but found the dining to be fairly average overall. On a positive note, the spa is excellent, though it’s a bit pricey. The staff were friendly and addressed a few room issues promptly.
Very disappointed, had high hopes but even those were dashed. The hotel itself requires a complete renovation. It’s tired, broken, and very very dirty. It’s as though the management left a year ago and has just hoped no one would notice the place was in complete disrepair. We booked the penthouse suite and were shocked an ihg hotel thought it was upto standard. It was befitting of a $100/month trap house. Doors broken, paint peeling, cobwebs everywhere, marks on the floors & tables & sheets. Electric points would spark, some would shock. Broken air conditioning. There was algae growing in the pool. Ants and spiders were infesting the place. It felt like that the six sense they were evoking was neglect and decrepitude. We requested cleaning multiple times to try to resolve it, it didn't. The staff whilst lovely; didn’t seem to have been taught how to clean at a level befitting of the price point/stars/global reputation of the hotel. I could go on and talk about the rag towels, the dirty water bottles, the faulty electronic equipment, the haphazard food and beverage options but I’ll stop. Above all else clear that the management has to take responsibility for these faults in training, setting standard and above all else their deliberate decision to rinse as much money as possible from the international clientele without any regard for services or brand. We won’t stay at another six sense again & suggest you don’t either.
This is not a luxury resort. The place has a dated look and feel and has seen better days. None of the restaurants offer great food. Some of the stuff is barely palatable. There is relentless construction noise from just outside even on a Sunday. The service is best described as slow and lacking urgency. Things happen in slow motion. While departing, we had informed them we had a prompt 7am departure for the airport, but it took repeated phone calls to get someone to collect the luggage, and then a leisurely checkout, plus we had to wait a while for the hotel van to come around “it was supposedly just in the parking”. As a result we departed late. The views are nice but getting here is not relaxing. This is a 3 or 4 star property at best. Should’nt be charging 5 star prices.

Alila Villas Uluwatu
Alila Villas Uluwatu made its name as the clifftop resort that proved Bali could do cutting-edge contemporary architecture. Designed by WOHA, the Singaporean firm known for gravity-defying tropical buildings, it is a study in clean lines, infinity edges, and a cage-like bamboo structure that houses the spectacular Warung restaurant.

Ayana Resort Bali
Ayana occupies a vast clifftop estate above Jimbaran Bay, with around 290 rooms spread across three connected properties: Ayana Resort, Ayana Segara, and the ultra-premium Ayana Villas. The scale is larger and less intimate than the neighbouring Four Seasons, but the facilities are staggering: a dozen restaurants, a private beach, an enormous spa, and Rock Bar, possibly the most famous bar in Bali, built on natural rocks at the base of the cliff.

Capella Ubud
Capella Ubud is the most distinctive hotel in Bali and one of the most original anywhere. Designed by Bill Bensley, the architect behind some of Asia's most theatrical properties, it reimagines a glamorous 1800s colonial-era camp through Bensley's signature maximalist wit. The 22 tented retreats and single lodge are scattered through dense rainforest, each one a fantasia of antique furniture, handpicked curiosities, and deliberate excess.
