Home by Chef Wayan
Home by Chef Wayan sits on Jalan Pantai Pererenan, just west of Canggu. Chef Wayan Kresna Yasa is Balinese, trained in Michelin-starred kitchens and later cooked for the Potato Head group, and he co-wrote the cookbook PAON. His own restaurant serves modern Balinese and Indonesian cooking in the style of a family table. Tatler Best Indonesia 2026 named it one of the country's 20 best restaurants, the only one in the Canggu area.
The menu is built for sharing, with plenty of seafood and a full vegan menu. It is the most accessible way to taste serious Balinese cooking on the west coast, without the formality of a tasting menu.
Mains start from around IDR 85,000++ (about USD 5), which makes this one of the best-value meals on any serious Bali list. It opens daily from noon to 10pm. Reservations are recommended, particularly for dinner.

HOME by Chef Wayan has emerged as one of Bali's most celebrated modern Indonesian restaurants, led by award-winning Chef Wayan Kresna Yasa, recipient of Foodies Magazine's Chef of the Year award. Drawing inspiration from his childhood, family traditions, and years of experience working in internationally acclaimed kitchens, Chef Wayan has created a concept that feels deeply personal while simultaneously pushing Indonesian cuisine forward. Located in Pererenan, HOME is built around a philosophy of honoring Indonesian culinary heritage through contemporary techniques and thoughtful presentation. Many of the dishes are inspired by recipes passed down through generations, reinterpreted using modern methods while preserving the flavors and stories that make them meaningful. The result is a menu that feels familiar and nostalgic for locals, while offering international guests a deeper appreciation of Indonesia's rich culinary diversity. Beyond the food itself, the restaurant's name perfectly reflects its identity. The atmosphere is warm, intimate, and welcoming, encouraging guests to slow down and connect over food. Combined with a strong commitment to local ingredients and cultural storytelling, HOME by Chef Wayan has become one of Bali's most exciting dining destinations and a standout example of how Indonesian cuisine can be both rooted in tradition and boldly contemporary.
This place was honestly amazing. Every single dish was delicious, the fish really stood out incredible flavours and cooked perfectly. Everything we ate was so well balanced and full of flavour. The place has such a lovely, authentic local feel it genuinely feels like being welcomed into someone’s home. Warm, relaxed, and full of soul. One of those meals you don’t stop talking about afterwards. For sure the best meal we had in Bali. Would go back in a heartbeat. Will be thinking about this food for a long time to come! Highly recommend if you want to try beautiful Indonesian food.
Come here hungry. 😋 Home by Chef Wayan in Pererenan is serving some of the best Indonesian food on the island. Every dish feels thoughtfully prepared and deeply authentic, showcasing incredible flavour and balance. The satay platter was outstanding perfectly cooked, tender, and paired with flavourful sauces. The Ledok Nusa “corn soup” was a standout surprise, comforting and beautifully layered. The gado gado was fresh and a unique way of presenting a well known dish. The selection of sambals was truly exceptional each one distinct, punchy, and addictive. The restaurant itself is small and cosy, making it perfect for couples or small groups. It’s very clean, professional, and clearly run by a highly experienced chef who takes pride in every detail. There’s also a great drinks list to complement the food. A must-visit if you’re in Pererenan and want high-quality Indonesian cuisine in an intimate setting.
Dined alone & had the 5-course menu, which was not only delicious but also left me feeling full & satisfied. Great introduction to what feels like elevated Balinese home-cooking. I had a lovely time & would be keen to come back with friends to try more of the menu.
The best meal I had in Bali. Chef Wayan came to speak with us about the restaurant, and the staff were attentive and lovely. The food... The food was incredible. We loved getting the five course meal, great value for money and everything was just unbelievable. Excellent cocktails, lovely setting and atmosphere. Everything was just fantastic.

More Restaurants in Bali

Apéritif
Apéritif is the fine-dining restaurant at Viceroy Bali, set above the Petanu River valley a short drive from central Ubud. The room is styled after a 1920s colonial dining salon, with its own bar. Executive chef Nic Vanderbeeken, who is Belgian, applies European technique to Indonesian ingredients. Tatler Best Indonesia named it one of the country's 20 best restaurants in both 2025 and 2026.

Cuca
Cuca is Jimbaran's most exciting restaurant and one of the most original dining concepts on the island. Chef Kevin Cherkas, who trained at elBulli and Arzak in Spain and at Daniel in New York, opened Cuca with Virginia Entizne in 2013. He brings a distinctly creative sensibility to a menu built around small, tapas-style plates designed for sharing. The setting is deliberately casual, an open-air pavilion surrounded by gardens, which belies the technical sophistication of the cooking.

Hujan Locale
If Locavore NXT points to Bali's culinary future, Hujan Locale is a love letter to its past. Chef Will Meyrick, a familiar name on the Southeast Asian food circuit, built the restaurant around heritage Indonesian recipes, many drawn from home cooks and family collections across the archipelago. The name means "local rain," and the menu reads like a tour of Indonesia's regional cuisines.
