San Giovanni Beach
San Giovanni Beach is Bellagio's free public beach, in the San Giovanni district next to Villa Melzi, a walk south of the Bellagio ferry stop along the lakefront. It is a pebble beach with a small lawn, and in 2026 there was a kiosk on the beach and diving platforms in the lake.
It is the best free alternative to the paid Lido di Bellagio a few minutes away. Water shoes are worth bringing, and toilets may be for kiosk customers only.
Guest Reviews
Now at the end of May 2026 it is a construction site, dirty and no access unless past caterpillars and wading through a small river. What a shame, as the 20 min walk from the centre was horrible enough (entirely on the side of a busy road without a proper sidewalk for pedestrians).
18th July 2206: No construction work here as mentioned in a few of the last reviews here (must have finished). Nice little spot to take a refreshing dip in the lake. Shingle beach, where the stones can be hot to walk on barefoot, and are then are slippery when getting in/out of the water. If you're prepared (we weren't) bring some beach shoes and you'll have a better time of it Nice little bar here as well (very busy) here too, so you can get a drink too. Stunning backdrop to your swim.
It’s not great but considering the beach situation in Bellagio, it’s all you got. Definitely not the cleanest but nothing horrible either. Recommend water shoes but can do without them if careful. There is a bar on the beach with ample seating. For shade, only available along the wall. Beautiful view
Lovely beach just past the villa in Bellagio. Shingle and pebble beach but very warm and clear water perfect for swimming. Jetty for jumping in and little cafe bar for drinks etc.
Wonderful free stone beach with a beach bar. There are no public bathroom besides the customer only bathrooms of the beach bar, but highly recommend the bar anyways! Water is beautiful and view is panoramic and spectacular. Bring water shoes or flip flops to swim! Get there at 10am if you wish to be there alone but it never got too busy anyways (Monday in mid May).
