Chez Black
An institution on Positano's main beach since 1949, Chez Black is the kind of place where you will see A-listers in linen shirts eating pizza alongside Italian families on holiday. The wood-fired pizzas are excellent, the seafood pasta is reliable, and the people-watching is world-class.
It is not cheap for what it is, and the service can be brisk when busy. But for a quintessential Positano lunch, feet almost on the sand, a carafe of local white, and a margherita with mozzarella you simply cannot get outside Campania, there is nowhere better.
Expect EUR 50-80 per person.

I had such a wonderful experience at Chez Black. Not once but twice. I was immediately made to feel welcome. The atmosphere is unbeatable, right on the beach with incredible views, and the food was delicious from start to finish. What stood out most was the hospitality. Everyone was warm, attentive, and genuinely kind, which made dining alone as a solo traveler feel special rather than intimidating. Little touches throughout the meal showed why this restaurant has been such a Positano institution for so many years. If you’re visiting Positano, Chez Black is a must. Great food, beautiful setting, and the kind of hospitality that makes you want to come back year after year. I was even sent over a heart-shaped watermelon by Mr.Black little moments like this truly make me feel special. Grazie mille for a memorable experience! 🇮🇹❤️🍋🌊
My wife and I had a great time enjoying lunch at Chez Black today after the beach. Roman and Rosario were excellent servers and the food and atmosphere were great! (Tuna tartare and marinated anchovies, all from Cetara, as well as the octopus carpaccio)
Chez Black in Positano is such a classic seaside dining experience and absolutely lives up to the charm of its location. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively, right along the water, with that effortless Positano energy that makes you want to linger over every course. The food was fresh and well-prepared, especially the seafood and pasta dishes, which felt simple in the best way—letting the ingredients speak for themselves. Portions were generous, and everything came out beautifully timed even with how busy it was. Service was friendly and fast-paced, which matches the setting, and the whole experience felt fun, relaxed, and memorable. It’s the kind of place that captures the spirit of Positano dining perfectly. A must-visit while in town
My partner and I were pleasantly surprised to run into the incomparable Debbie Allen (Golden Globe and Emmy winner, actress, dancer, choreographer, director, and producer), who recommended Chez Black during a casual stroll on the last night in Positano, Italy. We are delighted and grateful that she did! It was a memorable first time experience and our best meal! Situated on the beach, with no reservation, we were promptly seated at a great table with coastal views and ocean breezes. The atmosphere was vibrant, comfortable, casual, chic, and cozy. The service was warm, attentive, polished, and welcoming. The spaghetti was hot with juicy tomatoes and cooked to perfection, al dente. The mixed seafood was flavorful, fresh, and succulent. The grilled octopus was perfectly cooked, tender, and meaty. The chef’s kiss. 😘👏🏽🧡
Recommended to us by family. The food was so good we had to go back a second night! The fried baby squid and spaghetti with wild clams, were out of this world. The host Gabriella got us in the second night and both times gave us the best seats in the house. Francesco with his right hand man, Raffaele were exactly what us Americans needed to help find the best meals for what we were looking for with top of the line service. They do not cater to Americans like some restaurants but they help guide in the ways you need when it’s your first (or 2nd) time there!

Cumpa Cosimo
At the opposite end of the spectrum from Rossellinis, Cumpa Cosimo has been feeding visitors and locals in Ravello since 1929. The portions are enormous, the pasta is handmade daily, and the atmosphere is cheerfully chaotic.

Don Alfonso 1890
Don Alfonso holds one Michelin star and has kept its place among the south's finest restaurants for decades. The Iaccarino family's restaurant sits above the coast in the quiet hilltop village of Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, away from the tourist crush below.

Il Pirata
Tucked into the tiny harbour of Marina di Praia below Praiano, Il Pirata is a family-run seafood restaurant that has drawn devoted regulars for years. The setting is intimate, a small cove with fishing boats pulled up on the sand, and the food is honest, unfussy, and based entirely on what came in that morning.
