The Surin Phuket

The Surin opened in 1982 as The Pansea and became The Chedi in 1995, when Ed Tuttle redesigned it. It took its current name in 2011. Despite the name, the resort sits on Pansea Beach, the small bay it shares with Amanpuri, just north of Surin Beach.

Its cottages climb a hillside of coconut palms above the sand, and it is the most affordable way to stay on this stretch of coast. The Beach Restaurant is the main dining room, and Amanpuri ★ 4.7 sits on the headland at the end of the same beach.

We stayed at The Surin from June 5 to June 8, and it was honestly one of the highlights of our whole trip to Phuket. The location is amazing. The beach here has some of the softest sand we’ve ever walked on, and waking up to that view every morning just set the best mood for the day. The service throughout the resort was top-notch. Everyone was friendly, professional, and well trained. A special shoutout to the breakfast supervisor—she was so attentive and responsible every single morning. Seeing her warm smile really made our day feel extra welcoming. We did run into a minor issue during check-out, but the team handled it so professionally and sorted it out right away, which actually left us with an even better impression. The property and facilities are also super well maintained. For what it offers, we think The Surin is easily one of the best values on the island. We’ll definitely be back on our next trip to Phuket, and couldn't recommend it enough if you're looking for a relaxing beach getaway.

My luggage handle was damaged during my stay, but the hotel completely refused to take any responsibility or offer compensation. The staff were all smiles and polite at first, but once the issue was raised, the attitude changed completely. The manager simply said there was “no evidence” and refused to investigate or provide any reasonable solution. Very disappointing. The warm hospitality disappears quickly when it comes to taking responsibility. Smiles are easy; accountability is what truly matters.

Updated review April 2026: Returned here for the second time in nine months and have a few areas of improvement for management: the pool should have some sort of chiller installed. While the black tile is beautiful, during the hottest month of the year, it warms the pool to an uncomfortable level - it’s as warm as a bath and warmer than the ocean. When it’s this warm outside, you want a cool, refreshing pool - not a warm bath. I’d recommend offering complimentary sunscreen like most other hotels at this price point. B$700 for sunscreen is a bit of a joke. Finally, there were several upgraded rooms available when we checked in for our two night stay. For repeat guests, offering any sort of complimentary upgrade should just be a courtesy extended to those that choose to return to you. There’s many great choices here and since you don’t belong to any loyalty program, any gesture would be kind and appreciated. Original review from last year below (unedited) which was five stars across the board. —————— Original review from Nov 2025: Stunning resort with incredible staff, amazing pool and delicious restaurant options. Stayed during rainy season so prices were reasonable and you literally share the beach with Amanpuri next door (arguably the nicest and most expensive hotel in Phuket..). Highly recommend and will return soon!

My wife and I had the most amazing time at the Surin Phuket. Everything from the room to the food to the service was impressive and impeccable. Although the location is relatively remote compared to all the other things in Phuket, after going to experience all those things it makes you appreciate the serenity that the hotel offers. They make you feel at home and comfortable at the place. The stairs to everywhere can be a little debilitating, but I think everything else more than makes up for that. Shout outs to some specific personnel: we really want to thank Andrew Pape, the Executive Assistant Manager, who consistently went out out of his way to check on us almost every day we were at the hotel, have great conversations, and was super accommodating to help with any issues we had. We also really want to thank Meen Lim, one of the staff who went above and beyond to help get things for us for my wife’s birthday, and was super personable and invested in us our entire stay. Because of them and the work of the entire staff, we would recommend this place to anybody who wants a relaxing luxury experience.

The spa at The Surin is a wonderful experience. The body scrub left my skin feeling incredibly soft and refreshed. I really enjoyed the Mother Earth promotion, which is excellent value. The therapists are highly professional and the setting is so peaceful. Highly recommend!
