The Surin opened in 1982 as The Pansea and became The Chedi in 1995, when Ed Tuttle redesigned it. It took its current name in 2011. Despite the name, the resort sits on Pansea Beach, the small bay it shares with Amanpuri, just north of Surin Beach.

Its cottages climb a hillside of coconut palms above the sand, and it is the most affordable way to stay on this stretch of coast. The Beach Restaurant is the main dining room, and <venue-mention to="/asia/phuket/venues/amanpuri">

sits on the headland at the end of the same beach.
