Banyan Tree Phuket opened in 1994 as the first Banyan Tree resort. It is an all-pool-villa property set around lagoons on a former tin mine in the Laguna complex at Bang Tao, and its spa remains one of the best on the island.

In March 2026 the resort reopened its Thai restaurant, Saffron, after a redesign, with new chef de cuisine Tipaporn Phianthong, and opened Saisons, a cheese and charcuterie lounge. TRE serves steaks, and the Rava Beach Club sits on Bang Tao Beach.
